About

Welcome to LivingContent!

Hi! My name is Neil and I’m the guy behind LivingContent. I find that writing helps me clarify my goals and ideals and by reading about the lives and endeavors of others via their blogs (see below) I’ve also found inspiration and personal growth. So I hope LivingContent will be helpful to you as well.

My history is a bit unique as I was a monk for about ten years out of high school. I lived in an ashram and traveled to India several times and studied, practiced, and taught from the major books of spirituality from India, like the Bhagavad-Gita for example. You’ll probably see a lot of the Gita’s philosophy reflected in this blog. For example, one of my favorite sutras from the Gita states,

“Desires always enter our minds as rivers enter the sea. Yet the sea is never disturbed and similarly we must learn to remain of steady mind and not be disturbed by the incessant flow of desires.”

After my spiritual trek, I came back to the ‘normal’ world (if you can call it that) and completed undergraduate and graduate school for social work. I was married, became a father, got divorced, dated for a while, met the most amazing woman ever, and that’s more or less where I am today. I’m happy for the unique path my life has taken.

As I like to continue to work on self-improvement, I’ve come to be inspired by many blogs. I began reading The Art of Manliness a while back. One of my best friends Pat turned me onto that site. From there it was downhill. I began reading/following other sites like:

Leo Babauta’s Mnmlist and Zen Habits
Tao of Bachelorhood
Nerd Fitness
and Becoming Minimalist.

These sites have been an inspiration for me to move forward in life and have also inspired me to begin LivingContent. So, if you enjoy what you find here, please do me a favor and help me share it with others by clicking the Twitter and/or FaceBook buttons below.

Thank you.

Neil
